Odisha Home Guards annex Jadupur Cup

Odisha Home Guards (Cuttack) emerged champions in the 27th All-Odisha Jadupur Cup Football Tournament when they beat local outfit Friends and Friends 1-0 in the final at Jadupur ground here today. After a barren first half, Mohammad Mehraj Khalid scored the all-important goal in the 55th minute. His impressive performance fetched him the prizes as man of the match and player of the tournament.

Earlier in the semifinals, Odisha Home Guards edged out their Cuttack opponents Mangala Club 1-0, while Friends & Friends prevailed over Utkal Sporting (Jatni) 2-0. Yazdani Club-73, Kishore Club (both Bhubaneswar); Sports Hostel (Sambalpur) and BPIT (Phulbani) were other teams in the fray.

The best goalkeeper prize was claimed by Friends & Friends captain Debi Prasad Das. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and the runner-up side were given Rs 10,000. Ekamra MLA Ashok Panda handed over the trophy at the closing function. Host Jadupur Athletic Association president Dilawar Khan and secretary Sheikh Daud Ali were present on the occasion.
